Serious kudos to the Dollar Store this year for having some AWESOME fall and Halloween decorations for $1!
Now, I do have to admit, the Dollar Store has not saved me any money this fall. I’ve probably spent more on their awesome selection than in years past, but they do have some great stuff.
As many of you know, we are in the process of selling our house, so I wanted a mantel that still matched my downstairs decor and I didn’t want to take the time and/or money to change it too much form my summer mantel (shown below).
I ended up only spending $5 on new mantel supplies.
I painted a little web on a black plate I already had, and used my bottles that I had sprayed for my summer mantel.
I put some turkey feathers in one of them. I love the melted candle in the other. I never really considered melted candles to be “creepy” until I used them for my Halloween mantel.
The small candle needed height, so I put it in a jar with coffee grounds (I would have used beans, but I didn’t have any), and the black crow is from the Dollar Store.
Absolute best Dollar Store item this year…..bat silhouettes!
I folded mine in half and added glue stick to the middle of them to adhere them to the wall.
I love their 3-D appearance.
I wish I would have picked up more than one package. They are all sold out now.
On this side of the mantel, I used more coffee grounds to add height to my candle,
more turkey feathers and more bottles from my summer mantel.
The run down:
1. My painted spider plate.
2. I re-used my fabric swag from my summer and spring mantel. I needed the yellow color to balance the mantel and room. To give it a more “creepy” feel. I hung it sideways with some netting from the Dollar Store.
3. The Dollar Store bats.
4. The crows and skeleton are also from the Dollar Store
5. My Happy Halloween sign, I printed on card stock and added it to my yellow wooden block from my summer mantel. To give the words an aged effect, I dipped the paper in coffee, and let the ink run a little.
6. On the left side of the mantel, I re-used my spray painted summer mantel bottles, added feathers, a Dollar Store crow and coffee ground again for the candle.
I’m not a huge fan of creepy things for Halloween, but my boys love them, so I picked up this skeleton and some plastic rats at the dollar store.
After all, we can use the skeleton for home school…..right?
Are you all ready for month of October?
What happened to September? It feels like it started yesterday!

This is so stinkin’ cute!! I LOVE it!! I don’t typically decorate that much for Halloween, but like you, my boys beg me to each year! I love how you bought all dollar store items! My boys would be thrilled if they came home from school and saw this!
Thanks for linking it up.. I’d love for you to link it up at my linky party at http://www.therusticpig.com/2012/09/linky-party-2.html

Ya, my boys would like it if I put spider webs over our entire house! lol

Katie,
I’m loving the mantel … and those flying bats! I put across my front door last year and just love, love, love them! I too did not get much savings out of the dollar store … especially those little black crows! I just kept throwing them in my basket! LOL!
Linda
lol! I know what you mean….I bought another one yesterday!
that black fireplace screams “halloween mantle.” love the bats!!
I never even thought of that….but you’re right, it is very “halloween-ish”.

I also thought that it is the perfect fireplace for dressing up for Halloween! I love it, the decorations look great.
that is awesome! the bats are my favorite part!
Thanks Cassie! I think the bats are why I ended up with a Halloween mantel instead of a “fall” mantel…..I just had to use them!
