It is finished!
The dining room that is.
(and this may win the title of Picture Heavy Post 2012!)
I’m happy with it.
I took all the colors out of the house and Christmas decor this winter and stuck with silver, gold, white and green.
I guess those are “colors’, but I’m enjoying the color calmness this year!
I thought I would “whip together” this chair slips/covers….what are these called anyways, does anyone know?
Whatever they are called, they took longer than expected (doesn’t everything?).
You can read about my Junk Centerpiece that I found while running,
and I’ll have tutorials for the name holders and the chair “slips” soon.
My only purchases were these sliver plate chargers, and the bird/pinecone greenery on the chair slips.
I purchased these stars from the dollar store too.
The entire room is a little fancier than I normally would do, but it all just came together this way.
Do you think of an idea before you start decorating and create/purchases all the pieces necessary?
Or do you just throw the things you have together and see how it works out?
I have to say, I do more of the latter.
Although I always seem to pick up a few Dollar Store additions despite what I start with.
Funny how that is.
Do you like where the watermark is? I had to put it there, because I didn’t realize there was a pile of kids coats there when I took the picture….and I’m only so good at Photoshop, so my “faux baseboard” just wasn’t coming together, hence the name covering it.
….just keepin it real.
I contemplated doing one post for the table and one for the dining room,
but there’s not much more to the dining room than the table, so here it is….all in one lump sum.
I hope your week has been wonderful and you’ve been enjoying something festive.
Happy end of the week!

Most of what you'll see here are ways to live inexpensively, and how I put those into practice with my constant need to renovate houses.
We are a military family of 7, so houses must come big and inexpensive, and made beautiful as we go, turning what most would see as trash, into treasure.
Thanks for stopping by, stay awhile and make yourself at home. I hope you enjoy my ideas.

Love those burlap chair wraps
Good name for them! Thanks!

Very pretty Katie!
Thanks Anne!
Wow love the arrangement of your dining table and love to have a sit and enjoy eating Christmas recipe such as ham recipes, Christmas desserts, and Christmas casseroles.
That was total eye candy! Loved every single picture! I’m with you, I generally just go for it and let things fall into place; if (and that is a big if) I ever start with a plan I usually abandon ship mid way through. I’d be a horrible sailor.
Awesome job with you dining room! I came away with a ton of ideas, so thank you!
*your dining room… not you. Geesh, I guess I was too excited over your awesome post to proof read!
Your dinning room is amazing. I love all the sparkle. And I adore your chair slipcovers, they look amazing.
OMG this is so cozy and pretty and stylish at the same time! You had me at burlap, Katie:) But I also love the star place cards, very creative
Beautiful! though I would like a tiny bit of greenery on those gorgeous wrought iron sconces at the back. They look a little lonely.
You are so right! Great idea….they do look a little left out!

I love the little silver tin pails. Where did you find those?
I love the tin pails on the table. Where did you find those?
I’m pretty sure I picked them up at the dollar section at Target a couple years ago. Either that, or they were on clearance at a material store. –Katie
It all looks beautiful. It feels warm and wonderful- Love your use of burlap, too. xo Diana

Thanks Marci! –Katie
Love your dining room, especially the chair slips (I’ll just go with whatever name you tell me it is! LOL) and the chandelier! I’ve seen chandeliers with greenery before, but the way you styled the greens has it looking like it just grew there instead of “Oh, someone placed them there for the holidays!” Lots to admire in this room – and love being able to see your gorgeous Xmas tree in the other room too!
Thanks Laura! I’m hopefully going to find time to do a post about it!
–Katie
I love all the greenery! It looks like you spent hours and hours contemplating exactly where each piece was going to go and it looks like it cost you hundreds from decor stores. What a fantastic job!
Thanks Becca! What sweet comments! Made my night
