I’m going to be starting on a Decorating for Spring series.
Spring decorating is great because of all the outdoor elements you can use and because you can paint things white and they seem to “work”.
Of course, I’ll be trying to “spring-i-fy” my space for next to nothing, so hopefully you’ll find the ideas interesting at the least.
For my entryway vignette, I tried to use things I already had, by painting them, using fabric, or just using them in a different way.
We’ll start at the beginning, where I made a table runner out of some place mats that I found on fall clearance at Walmart a couple years back.
Here are the placemats.
You can either sew them together….
…or just place something with weight on top of where they meet.
…and you have an interesting and inexpensive table runner!
Looks great in this space. I love the texture and the stripes.
Have you ever used placemats as anything other than placemats?

I'm a wife, a sister, a daughter, a mother of 5, a Jesus lover, a coffee abuser, an obsesser of all things DIY, design and decor related.
Most of what you'll see here are ways to live inexpensively, and how I put those into practice with my constant need to renovate houses.
We are a military family of 7, so houses must come big and inexpensive, and made beautiful as we go, turning what most would see as trash, into treasure.
Thanks for stopping by, stay awhile and make yourself at home. I hope you enjoy my ideas.

Thats amazing Katie! I love it! Ingenious!!!! xx
Thanks Rani!
Awesome, I could have sworn that this was a real thing! The seam in completely invisible…. and I also found myself wondering why those beautiful bamboo mats don’t come in more shapes and sizes…
I love your runner. I especially like how it picks up the greens of the items you have on top of it- GREAT job- xo Diana
Thanks Diana! I hope you and your family are doing well!
Looks fabulous Katie. I love the vignette you created. That is a great idea, bring on the spring!
Well, I’m not sure why I think it’s time for spring decorating. Maybe because I only like to decorate seasonally, and I’m really tired of the winter stuff. lol It is only Feb though, I guess
Ok, now I’m embarrassed that I never thought of this, so simple!
This is brilliant…well done! Years ago I made some little purses from place mats. My daughter was at the age where she wanted a purse for every outfit and we had great fun shopping for the place mats. The runner makes much more sense though!
Thanks Ann. Good idea with the purses! I’d never thought of that. I’ve seen people make pillows out of dollar store placemats too. I’m going to have to keep my eyes out of the clearance ones!
Great idea, and it looks wonderful, too.
Saw you sharing with Live Laugh Linky Thursday

It looks great with your bird picture and other accessories! I took a couple of twig table runners and turned them into a window treatment.
I have a few extra placemats…think I will give this a try!
great idea, love the “Spring-y” green!
Clever idea. Thank you !
Great job Katie! It turned out lovely! Thanks for sharing!
Great idea Katie! So pretty!
Thanks for sharing – Stacey of Embracing Change
That’s a great tip! It seems there are far more choices in placemats than in table runners, so you don’t have to limit yourself now
Thanks so much for linking up at the party,

Totally Christina! I saw someone use some Dollar Store placemats to make a Roman shade yesterday! I’m going to have to start thinking of more ideas of how to use them!
That’s a really great idea … I love the texture of the placemats you used!
What a great idea! The placemats you used form a perfect runner.
