I love all the butterflies, eggs, blooms and bird’s nests that come out at the start of Spring.
I wanted a couple bird’s nests for Spring decor this year, so I looked around for what I had.
I had bought these flower baskets on summer clearance because I had plans for the metal caging…..still do
I figured the coconut mulch would make the perfect bird’s nest. You could use any flower pot or window basket coconut mulch for this project.
I usually don’t replace mine every year, but some of you do, and the old stuff would work great too, or you can buy it at some craft stores in a roll.
I cut mine down. If you’re using coconut mulch that isn’t round, cut it as circular as possible, and then stretch it and spread it out .
Then pull the pieces apart until it’s fluffy, like a nest. Shape the nest by tucking some parts in and pulling some parts out until you have it looking like you want.
To add some color, I added some green moss pieces from the Dollar Store and some eggs I painted with blue sparkle paint from the Dollar Store.
It only cost around $5 and took under 10 minutes. Pretty easy!
I hope you’re all having a great week!

Most of what you'll see here are ways to live inexpensively, and how I put those into practice with my constant need to renovate houses.
We are a military family of 7, so houses must come big and inexpensive, and made beautiful as we go, turning what most would see as trash, into treasure.
Thanks for stopping by, stay awhile and make yourself at home. I hope you enjoy my ideas.

It looks like spring!
Thanks Jenny Lynn! I hope it’s starting to look like spring around here. I feel like I still need some new fun pillows for the couch or something. Maybe that will be this week’s project
Have a great weekend!
That is really pretty. I saw someone else use a cocoa mat to make a nest. Clever. Hugs, Marty

Thanks Anne! Happy Weekend!!!
You sure have gotten this old head going, want to find a coconut basket with the wire cradle with it. Don’t know as I’ve ever seen one like that but then I’m not one to hang out at garden shops, guess I will now if I can find that. Love your idea for a nest, looks more authentic than alot I’ve seen ready made. Just have to fiddle with it a bit and I’ve got myself a different kind of nest. Lovin that. Great job Katie.
Happy Days gal.
Thanks Jane Ellen! I’ve seen people make them out of so many things. I wonder if the Dollar Store has coconut mulch yet? Thanks for stopping by!
