A couple summers ago, I saw the finial below in the garden section at Walmart.
This is not the actual finial, but it is the closest thing I could find. Mine was actually a foam-type composite and was a darker brown.
I eyed it the entire spring and summer, until it went on clearance. I figured it would. I’m not sure how many people use foam finials in their yards where I live.
It wasn’t bad brown, but I hadn’t used it much and thought it would work better for Spring if it were white.
So I used this Crackle paint, and white latex paint and before the white paint was dry, I scraped it off in places and sanded the edges a bit.
It turned out just how I wanted. It looks like a weathered finial.
So if you have a few items that you want to spruce up for spring, just think about giving them a coat of white,
or maybe some crackle medium and a coat of white.
It might make them one of your favorite pieces!

Most of what you'll see here are ways to live inexpensively, and how I put those into practice with my constant need to renovate houses.
We are a military family of 7, so houses must come big and inexpensive, and made beautiful as we go, turning what most would see as trash, into treasure.
Thanks for stopping by, stay awhile and make yourself at home. I hope you enjoy my ideas.

I don’t know if it’s just the cracked paint or the sanding as well, but the rugged look is perfect!
The power of paint! I love how it turned out!
I really love that! I’m looking at everything in my house today, wondering what I can freshen up!
Just some paint can really make a difference. It looks great, Katie- xo Diana
Hi Katie! This turned out so great! You would never guess that it was foam! I have learned to look at things like this and immediately contemplate how they would look with a little TLC. It’s great when you can get something on clearance because it’s kind of ugly and snazz it up and make a real treasure out of it! SUch fun – love it! Hugs, Leena
I love it, Katie! I doesn’t look anything like foam. Your paint treatment really gave it some texture.
It looks great!
Gorgeous! I was eyeing up that finial last week in your other posts! So pretty Katie!
This looks GREAT! I have lots of little touches that are needed at my house…now if I can get to them!
Thanks for the inspiration sweet friend! XO, Aimee
Hey Aimee! I hope you and your family are doing well! It’s probably getting to be that baseball time of year again for you guys! I hope blogging and the kid’s school is going well. Have a fantastic weekend!
I love this! What a great eye … I have a hard time seeing beyond what is to what could be with things like this. But this totally inspires me to give a fresh look.
This is great! Thanks so much for sharing!
