DIY Rustic Cup Holder….use less dishes!

Cup Holder Orgaization to Reduce Dishes by Creatively Living.

Does the New Year make you want to organize?

It makes me want to throw away 1/3 of my kid’s toys, to actually clean my fridge, and to pick through the clothes in the closet!

One project I decided to tackle was a cup holder with labeled cups.

You see, when you have 6 kids you can basically fill a dishwasher with just cups in a day!

It’s insane. You see more cups in the dishwasher in a day then you even know you had! Rustic Cup Holder

We started with a blank wall. I was demoing the kitchen, and had taken out the old backsplash.

Once we had the new backsplash in, I cut two old boards that had been sitting outside and measured the screws (hooks) evenly.

Once the screws (hooks) were in, I screwed the boards into the wall in three places for each board to ensure it was secure.

(I’m not sure what size of hook I used. You’ll need whatever size your mug handles will fit in!)

That was it! Seriously so easy!

I then bought the matching mugs at the Goodwill for 49 cents/mug and stenciled a initial on each mug, doing the whole  “permanent-marker-bake-a-mug” thing. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about check out the cute ideas we’ve pinned to our Permanent Marker Mug Ideas Board on Pinterest).

There are some mixed reviews, so we’ll see if the letters stay on.

I think I will eventually buy larger mugs at the Dollar Store, but since it was the holidays and 1/2 of America had made “permanent-marker-baked-mugs” for Christmas, there were none to be found when I did this project.

Seriously, this project was easy, quick, and under $8!

I’m hoping it will cut down on the cups in my dishwasher by about 75%!

I get that you probably don’t need 8 initialed mugs, but it would be cute to do a pattern in a gold permanent maker on each one, and everyone in your family could have their own pattern, or just a couple with initials. We created a board with our faves on Pinterest. It’s call Permanent Marker Mug Ideas, so check it out…this would make a great Valentine’s Day present!

Do you have any organizing projects or goals for the New Year?
